Nursing Associate Higher Apprenticeship: University of Salford
The Nursing Associate is a highly trained support role that delivers effective, safe and responsive nursing care in and across a wide range of health and care settings.
Apprenticeship Overview
- The Nursing Associate is a highly trained support role that delivers safe, effective, and compassionate nursing care across a wide range of health and care settings. It bridges the gap between support workers and Registered Nurses. That prepares a skilled workforce for future healthcare needs. Nursing Associates work both independently and as part of multidisciplinary teams; providing hands-on care in primary, secondary, community, and social care environments.
- Within the first year you’ll develop your understanding of professional values, ethical practice, and the theories underpinning health and social care. This will enable you to deliver safe, effective, and person-centred nursing care. You will explore public health principles, health promotion, safeguarding, and risk management across the lifespan. Whilst building knowledge of key body systems to support routine care. The module also advances your skills in caring for acutely ill individuals, focusing on holistic care planning, legal and ethical frameworks, and the impact of physical and psychological ill health.
- Within the second year you’ll develop the knowledge, clinical skills, and professional behaviours needed to deliver holistic, person-centred care. You will gain experience in caring for people with long-term conditions, safely administering medicines, and making clinical decisions in busy care environments. While understanding your role within multidisciplinary teams and upholding equality, diversity, and duty of care. The module also supports reflective practice, evidence-based care through research and innovation, and the development of leadership skills to support learning and assessment in practice.
- You’ll be assessed in both clinical placements and in the University. Assessments will take place via a range of methods including: practice assessments, essays, objective structed clinical exam (OSCE), presentations and VIVA examinations.
