The Royal Academy of Engineering + Skills Competition

Learner news

The Royal Academy of Engineering Business and Engineering competition, hosted by GMIoT education partner Wigan & Leigh College. (8th June 2023)

The Royal Academy of Engineering asked EVERFI LTd to run a pilot challenge with the aim of supporting engineering talent and helping ambitious technically-minded individuals to upskill, gain confidence and learn about business entrepreneurship.

Learners from Tameside College and Wigan & Leigh College will be working towards or on other level 3 courses in Engineering and Manufacturing.

The challenge kicked off with a series of engineering activities, including team building and hearing from local engineering employers before learning about the competition.

Teams will have a 3 week period to research, ideate and plan their solutions before submitting them online, to be judged by a team of Royal Academy of Engineering specialists, local employers, and education specialists.

The Challenge focused on ‘sustainable excellence’, where ‘sustainability’ embraces engineering’s contribution to greater social, economic and environmental sustainability at local and national level.

The event was a fantastic occasion for learners and employers within the Greater Manchester Institute of Technology to collaborate, come together and share experiences on technical skills within engineering & manufacturing.
