Employer Event + Harnessing Untapped Talent

Employer news

Hosted by SIEMENS UK

On Thursday 24th August 2023, senior members of academia, HR and business leaders from across Greater Manchester gathered for our first Greater Manchester Institute of Technology (GMIoT) employer event.

The Topic +

Traditional methods of hiring technical talent is becoming a challenge. Technology will never replace the very human processes of HR but it allows a business to access candidates at scale. Our guest speakers spoke about how technology allows us to strip away external factors that might create bias and create a better profile of emerging human skills and talent.

The event kicked off by Head of People and Organisation Paul Birt, who shared the vision of hiring and retaining a diverse workforce at Siemens.

Guest speaker Jennifer Voyle from Arctic Shores spoke about ‘scraping the traditional CV’ to hire for potential through gamification techniques with Jon Turner, sharing his findings on implementing hiring strategies at Siemens. Head of talent Darragh Lee from TalkTalk and Paul Hardy from Salford Professional Development focused on the strategies to retain and support a diverse talent pool.

Key takeaways are workforce diversity, emerging technologies and working in partnerships to create a network of inclusive talent.

The future of technical skills is bright and we are proud to work alongside our industry partners to help diversify the region’s workforce and attract the next generation of highly skilled technical talent.
